As wireless networks become increasingly central to connected devices, high-density applications, and intelligent transportation systems, reliability and low-latency communication are becoming critical challenges. Next-generation Wi-Fi networks must manage growing, unpredictable traffic, while 6G-enabled transportation systems need to maintain reliable communication even as vehicles and wireless channels are constantly moving.
BTech students Ura Modi and Hiya Shah (Class of 2027) have taken on these challenges through research at the Machine Intelligence, Computing and xG Networks (MICxN) Research Lab. Their work explores ways to make two rapidly evolving frontiers in wireless communications more reliable: next-generation Wi-Fi and 6G-enabled intelligent transportation systems.
At the 2026 IEEE International Conference on Signal Processing and Communications (SPCOM 2026), the students presented their research, demonstrating how undergraduate researchers can contribute to globally relevant engineering challenges.
Hiya Shah’s research, “Adaptive Scheduling for Low-Latency Coordination in Wi-Fi 8 Multi-AP Networks,” addresses the challenge of coordinating multiple access points in next-generation Wi-Fi 8 networks. Her proposed adaptive scheduling approach aims to reduce delays and respond to sudden traffic congestion, supporting more reliable wireless connectivity for future high-density applications. The paper was shortlisted as one of the five best papers in the Communications category at SPCOM 2026.
Ura Modi’s research, “Mobility-Aware CSI Reliability in PASS-Assisted Highway V2I Systems,” focuses on communication reliability in high-speed Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) systems. His work examines the reliability of Channel State Information (CSI) as wireless channels change rapidly with vehicle movement. It explores Pinching Antenna Systems (PASS) and intelligent channel management strategies to address communication outages and improve the reliability of highway communication systems.
The research was conducted at the MICxN Research Lab under the guidance of Professor Dhaval K Patel.
SPCOM is an international conference that brings together researchers from academia, research laboratories, and industry in the fields of signal processing and communications. The participation of Ura and Hiya reflects the School of Engineering and Applied Science’s emphasis on engaging undergraduates in authentic research and enabling them to contribute to knowledge creation.
