The workshop introduces students to the ways in which an international cultural convention is implemented in the real world of practitioners and knowledge bearers. The sessions in the workshop address the matter of culture (ICH, traditional knowledge, cultural expressions, heritage) and ‘development’– a connection that continues to be overlooked and under-represented. They also explore the interlinkages between culture and nature through case studies and explain the role of ICH in environmental sustainability. Another aspect that the workshop focuses on is sustainable livelihood and income. This issue is crucial to practising communities and for the viability of practice and its expression. All these aspects are explored and discussed through case studies and insights from field studies conducted in India and Asian regions. In the process, the workshop introduces students to field methods and case writing.
