Semester Exchange in Finland Empowers BBA (Hons) Student Khushi's Global Vision and Personal Growth
"When I applied for the exchange programme at the University of Vaasa, I wasn't chasing a certificate; I was chasing growth which comes when you step out of your comfort zone, enter unfamiliar spaces, and choose to learn with an open heart," said Khushi Rathi, BBA (Hons) Class of 2026, on pursuing her semester exchange programme at Finland.
The semester exchange programmes, facilitated by the Office of International Affairs at Ahmedabad University, aim to cultivate a culture of global citizenship and leadership among its students. Khushi, for instance, recently participated in one such programme at the University of Vaasa in Finland.
Khushi recounts how working with peers from different parts of the world broadened her perspective, introducing her to new ways of thinking. She learned not only to collaborate but also to listen, adapt, and co-create effectively within a global environment. Khushi narrates how the major highlight of the programme was participating in an international hackathon in Lithuania, where she finished in the Top 5. Competing with students from across Europe pushed her to think critically, lead under pressure, and solve problems creatively.
However, Khushi's learnings extended beyond pure academics. It was a blend of cultural immersion and practical exposure that encouraged citizenship, resilience, and thoughtfulness. Her stay in Finland and experience with the University of Vaasa, for instance, cultivated her sustainable consciousness through practice rather than just theory. She feels that she has returned with habits that now feel essential. Adapting to the new geography and climate, whilst challenging, instilled in her the discipline to remain consistent, positive, and focused even when surroundings felt tedious, making her more self-reliant than ever.
Khushi's experience illustrates how Ahmedabad University semester exchange programmes help students gain a global perspective and cultural immersion, enhance academic and intellectual growth, boost personal development and life skills, and expand networks and career opportunities. "This exchange was never just about studying abroad," Khushi reflected. "It was about growing through challenges, finding confidence in the unknown, and saying yes to experiences that shape who you are."
