Finding Villages with Potential for Financial Services in India: Application of Survey-to-Survey Imputation
Credit markets suffer from market failures of asymmetric information-- banks do not know where the high creditworthy borrowers are. In the Indian context, while banks may have information on district-level geographies, they are unaware of high-potential villages within districts. To overcome that, Professor Samarth Gupta will develop a data-driven quantitative index for the financial services potential of villages in India using multiple sets of surveys and will also explain various industries where variants of this technique are applied.
