ABSTRACT
Unsupervised learning/Data clustering is one of the most studied areas in Pattern Recognition today. The lecture will give a gentle introduction to the generic area of unsupervised learning with K-Means, Gaussian Mixtures and the EM Algorithm, and give applications in pattern recognition, image analysis (briefly touching on a bit of biometrics), and video analysis e.g., automatic background subtraction. The lecture will be intended more as a popular lecture, with lots of practical examples, a little bit of math, and a lot of history. In the topic of data clustering, Prof.Anil K Jain's paper, ``Data clustering: 50 years beyond K-means'' happens to be perhaps one of the most downloaded papers in the area.
