Advanced control of robotics is an active area of research with numerous opportunities for innovation in technology. The research effort invariably tends to be multidisciplinary and requires insights of engineering practice and sound scientific roots. The talk will begin with introduction and nature of research in engineering. Next, current challenges in industrial robotics will be discussed. This will introduce the Department of Science and Technology sponsored project being investigated by the speaker. Finally, current results will be shared in a way that undergraduate students interested in the area can plan their participation at Ahmedabad University or otherwise. [This work was presented in the 15th International Workshop on Variable Structure Systems (IEEE-VSS), Graz, Austria]
