Abstract: The abstracts for the two parts of the seminar are mentioned below:
Bubble Dynamics: Bubbles are gases trapped inside a denser fluid which is often a liquid. These bi-phasic media are often born from chance, and usually end their short life violently in the union with the nearly infinite! The scientific aesthetics attached with the study of bubbles can be inferred from the fact that their investigation has attracted great minds, such as, Leonardo da Vinci, George Gabriel Stokes, and Lord Rayleigh. I will qualitatively explain the physics of multi bubble dynamics and the repulsive behavior that arises due to strong nonlinear coupling between the bubbles.
Modelling of Complex Media Using Fractional Derivatives: The overall goal is to show that fractional calculus is not just a mathematical framework which can only be empirically introduced to curve-fit the experimental observations. Rather, it has an inherent connection to real physical processes that needs to be explored more
About the Speaker: Vikash Pandey is currently working as a researcher at the Centre for Ecological and Evolutionary Synthesis (CEES), University of Oslo, Norway. He is one of the members of a project that is funded by the Research Council of Norway (RCN), and is currently investigating, ‘micro-macro evolution leading to speciation’. Prior to the position at the CEES, he had his first postdoctoral experience at the Research Centre for Arctic petroleum Exploration (ARCEx) hosted by the UiT, The Arctic University of Norway in Tromsø. This research that was funded by Statoil was regarding multi bubble dynamics and has recently been successfully completed. He had obtained PhD degree, 2012-2016, from the University of Oslo.
