Sanjay Chaudhary, Professor and Associate Dean at the School of Engineering and Applied Science, has been named a founding member of the Indian AI Research Organization (IAIRO). This landmark initiative by the Government of Gujarat is designed to strengthen India’s artificial intelligence research and innovation infrastructure. Professor Chaudhary’s inclusion brings a robust academic and interdisciplinary perspective to IAIRO, which is essential to its mission of fostering collaboration among research, industry, startups, and government.
Notably, Professor Chaudhary is the only Indian academic within IAIRO’s founding group, a distinction that reinforces Ahmedabad University’s commitment to world-class research with tangible, real-world impact. His appointment exemplifies how our faculty members directly inform national policy, technological advancement, and institution-building.
IAIRO will be established in GIFT City, Gandhinagar, under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. With this initiative, Gujarat becomes the first state in the country to establish a state-led, national-level AI research institution. Aligned with the IndiaAI Mission and the State’s AI Action Plan, this marks a significant step in building long-term public research capacity in frontier technologies.
As Gujarat positions itself at the forefront of India’s AI journey, this appointment showcases the critical role our faculty plays in shaping the nation’s technological and innovation ecosystem.
