Gujarat Institute of Chemical Technology to Fund Laboratory for Research in Novel Engineered Materials
The Gujarat Institute of Chemical Technology (GICT will support the creation of a basic R&D laboratory infrastructure for the faculty and students of the School of Engineering and Applied Science. The infrastructure will allow faculty and students to synthesise novel materials in energy and environment with a special focus on selected areas such as catalysis, hydrogen storage, water treatment, extraction processes, and chemical and gas sensors. The proposed laboratory will be established in a 200-square-meter area. It will be fully equipped with chemical-resistant laboratory benches, fume hoods, and small instruments to facilitate research, such as pH meters, conductivity meters, analytical and coarse weighing balances, centrifuges, probes and batch sonicators, UV-Visible spectrophotometers, tube furnaces, muffle furnaces, hot air ovens, vacuum ovens, and rotary evaporators, among other things. The PI for the research is Ajay Karakoti, Associate Professor, School of Engineering and Applied Science.
