BTech Students Beat BITS Pilani, IIT Madras and Others to Win AIChE Awards
The students of Ahmedabad University’s BTech programme in Chemical Engineering have left a lasting impression on the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE), a professional organisation for chemical engineers with more than 60,000 members in over 110 countries.
Since 2019, the Student Chapter of Ahmedabad University has had an extraordinary run at the AIChE Student Chapters Awards and this year was no different. It won the Outstanding Student Chapter for the third time in a row. This award is presented annually to those Student Chapters that show an exceptional level of participation, enthusiasm, programme quality, professionalism, and involvement at the university, community as well as global levels. Of more than 350 AIChE chapters globally, around 40 chapters have won this award for 2020-21. Other notable participants were BITS Pilani, IIT (Madras, Roorkee and Gandhinagar), Pandit Deendayal Energy University, Vellore Institute of Technology, and MIT World Peace University.
AIChE Ahmedabad University Student Chapter also won the Outstanding Sister Chapter Award 2020-21 with its sister chapter AIChE New Jersey Institute of Technology Student Chapter as a pair, becoming the only duo to have won this award in 2020-21. AIChE Ahmedabad University Student Chapter is also the only Asian chapter who has won this award so far.
Our students also bagged individual awards. Viraj Boghani, BTech (Class of 2023), won the Donald F Othmer Sophomore Academic Excellence Award. Anannya Oli, BTech (Class of 2024), won the Freshman Recognition Award. These are awarded to students in each chapter who have excelled academically and actively contributed to the chapters in their sophomore and freshman years respectively. Yet again, Ahmedabad University students hold the distinction of bagging the awards in each of these categories for three consecutive years.
