Ahmedabad Professors Receive Grant from the Department of Atomic Energy for Research on Person Identification in Unconstrained Surveillance
Mehul Raval, Professor, and Sanjay Chaudhary, Professor, of the School of Engineering and Applied Science, were awarded a three-year research grant by the Board of Research in Nuclear Science, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC). The Board functions under the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. Professor Raval is the PI, Professor Chaudhary is the Co-PI, and Anand Laddha, Scientific Officer at BARC, is the project collaborator for the study on Description based person identification in unconstrained surveillance video.
The research focuses on locating a person-of-interest based on a specific set of soft biometric attributes from a surveillance video without prior registration. The project will integrate and minimise the semantic gap between an input image or a video frame, and use these features to locate a matching individual in the video stream.
