In this talk, we investigate double sums involving monomials over intervals and arbitrary subsets of finite fields. We establish bounds that both generalise and, in certain ranges, sharpen previously known results. Furthermore, we study higher moments of double exponential sums with monomials over arbitrary sets and intervals in finite fields. Our approach relies on Fourier analysis on finite additive groups to obtain precise moment estimates. This area of research originates in the work of Heath-Brown, particularly in his study of least square-free numbers in arithmetic progressions, and has since developed into an important theme in analytic number theory over finite fields.
Nilanjan Bag is working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics, Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET), Patiala, since July 2024. He completed his PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati in 2020. Then he joined Harish-Chandra Research Institute as a Postdoctoral Fellow (2021-2022). Afterwards, he joined Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute, Belur Math, as an NBHM postdoctoral fellow (2022-2024). His research interests are in analytic number theory; in particular, he is currently working on exponential and character sums, L-functions, function fields, and sieve methods, among other topics.
