Professor Gaurav Goswami is an Assistant Professor at the Division of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, School of Arts and Sciences, Ahmedabad University.
Professor Goswami is primarily a theoretical cosmologist i.e. the primary focus of his research has been the interface of cosmology (which deals with the scientific study of the origin and evolution of the entire Universe) and fundamental physics (which deals with the study of the most basic ingredients, the most elementary building blocks, which make up the Universe and the laws which act on them).
In addition to this, Professor Goswami’s interests lie in (a) the broader theme of mathematical modeling, and, (b) carefully understanding the subtler aspects of the very process by which we establish facts in science and outside of science.
Professor Goswami received a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Chemical Engineering from Gujarat University (2004), a Masters in Physics from Pune University (2007) and PhD in Physics from Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics, Pune (2014, degree awarded by Jawaharal Nehru University). During his PhD, Professor Goswami focussed on (a) understanding the evolution of cosmological perturbations in the early universe, and, (b) using the observations of Cosmic Microwave Background to understand the statistical properties of primordial metric perturbations in the early Universe. Between 2013 and 2015, Professor Goswami was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Theoretical Physics Division, Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmedabad where he worked on various issues at the interface of particle physics and cosmology. From 2015 to 2021, Professor Goswami served as a faculty member at School of Engineering and Applied Science, Ahmedabad University.
