Professor Jeemol Unni to Preside Over 63rd Labour Economics Conference of Indian Society of Labour Economics
Jeemol Unni, Professor of Economics, Amrut Mody School of Management, has been invited by the General Body of the Indian Society of Labour Economics to be the Conference President of the 63rd Labour Economics Conference of the Indian Society of Labour Economics (ISLE) to be held in early 2023. The decision was unanimously taken at the Society’s 62nd Conference at IIT Roorkee. The Annual Conference of the Society is usually attended by over 500 scholars and experts from various parts of India as well as many from abroad. It is an important forum in the country for deliberations on labour and employment issues.
Professor Unni has been an important and active member of the ISLE who has enormously contributed to its activities. She is an Editorial Adviser of the Society’s flagship quarterly journal, Indian Journal of Labour Economics.
The Indian Society of Labour Economics was founded in 1957 by veteran trade unionist and former President of India late VV Giri and other well-known public personalities and academicians. It is a leading professional body of economists, other social scientists and practitioners interested in labour, development, employment, industrial relations, human resource development and related issues. Some of the most outstanding economists and experts have presided over its annual conferences during the last 62 years. Apart from VV Giri, they include Professor VKRV Rao, Professor PC Mahalanobis, Professor DT Lakdawala, Professor ML Dantwala, Professor KN Raj, Professor Sukhamoy Chakravarty, and in recent years, Professor Yoginder Alagh, Professor C.H. Hanumantha Rao, Professor Deepak Nayyar, Professor Abhijit Sen, Professor Kaushik Basu to name a few.
