Anjasi Mehta Selected for CFA Institute's Young Women in Investment Programme
Amrut Mody School of Management’s Anjasi Mehta has been selected for the prestigious Young Women in Investment programme by the CFA Institute, a global association of investment professionals, to encourage diversity in the investment domain. The programme holds its applicants to a high standard, and Anjasi is among a select cohort pan India. The 2023 graduate says, “It is the perfect platform for a young graduate about to start their career in finance. I expect to network and interact with several experienced professionals through the programme. With Ahmedabad University’s hands-on learning experience, I believe I have the skills to apply my learnings to the larger investment context.”
The Young Women in Investment programme involves a month-long boot camp, to be held virtually, and a six-month paid internship at an organisation of international repute. Launched in the summer of 2018, the programme aims to create awareness about, instil interest in, and enable women to view the investment management domain as a viable long-term career option. The selection, Anjasi says, was rigorous. “It demanded applicants not just to be well-versed with the technical aspects of finance but also with integrating them into real life. The interview spanned Indian markets and monetary economics, key finance terms and norms to the banking crisis and current affairs.”
What set Anjasi apart was her in-depth professional knowledge, along with a broad understanding of financial and managerial challenges in a global and local context. “They saw me as someone who is adaptable to different environments and has the skills to understand cross-cultural and multidisciplinary dynamics,” says Anjasi. “Ahmedabad University has assisted me in acquiring relevant skills such as problem-solving, data analysis, and communication which are essential requisites in the modern-day workspace. The Financial Markets, Financial Services, and Monetary Economics courses taught at the University have been especially fundamental to my knowledge and assisted me in linking concepts to the real world. For instance, the integration of monetary policy while studying Indian markets has advanced my understanding while performing a fundamental analysis of the markets. Likewise, the Services course helped me understand mutual funds and portfolio diversification, which led to a better understanding of portfolio allocation/management.”
The BBA (Honours) student with a Major in Finance and Economics says that being a part of the CFA-led ecosystem will help her gain a foothold in the diverse fields of finance. “I plan to develop my career in portfolio management, and through the Young Women in Investment programme, I expect to learn industry-relevant skills, integrate AI and finance, and work on real-world problems which will support my pathway.”
