Samir Shah is the Managing Partner at Peak Sustainability Ventures, which is engaged in investing in companies with a sustainability focus, specifically in new energy, water, agriculture and climate tech. Peak plays an active role with its investee companies working with them on strategy, fund raise, business growth and capital raise. Samir has been associated with many successful investments such as Ion Energies, Waaree Solar, VA Tech Wabag, Drinkwell, GIST Advisory Switzerland among others. He holds Board positions in several companies including Waaree (till Jan 2021), International Development Enterprise (India) which works with marginal farmers to improve incomes and improve soil health, Arya.ai with works in artificial intelligence in the financial sector among many others where he has a Board/advisory engagement. He is a trustee at Impact India Foundation, which runs Lifeline Express, a train converted to a hospital and rendering free medical services across rural India since 1994. He writes and speaks on a regular basis at various conferences on areas related to sustainability.
Prior to moving back to India in 2014, he had a successful career in financial markets in New York and Hong Kong, with Goldman Sachs, Salomon Brothers, Deutsche Bank Capital where he was involved in trading/investment in global financial markets. He ran an investment fund in Hong Kong titled “Sattva Asia Opportunities Fund” for many years.
He is trained as a lawyer (LLB Bombay University), Chartered Accountant (Institute of Chartered Accountants of India) and an MBA (with distinction) from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
