India is going through an unprecedented banking crisis. There have been banking failures in the past but they were limited to one large or few small banks. What we are seeing today is a banking crisis across most different types of banking and financial institutions. The crisis started with public sector banks but quickly spread to private sector banks (new and old), cooperative banks, non-banking finance companies, housing finance companies and so on. In this webinar, we will try and understand the reasons behind India's banking crisis in two parts. The first part will discuss both the macro (banking sector as a whole) and the micro picture (individual banks) of the crisis. The second part will analyse the regulatory responses by RBI and the government.
