Gits Food Products Pvt. Ltd. has left an indelible mark on India’s packaged foods. The company which was founded in 1963 , by two friends, Mr H.Z.Gilani and Mr A.K.Tejani, pioneered the packaged food market by being the first to introduce the instant mixes range of products in India. Gits is not only the pioneer in the introduction of ready to cook foods, but also among India’s first food product manufacturing enterprises as well as one of the first Indian enterprises to manufacture food products to receive ISO 9001 – 2008 (Quality Standard) and ISO 22000 (Food Safety) certifications. Since the beginning, the founders established a straightforward and beneficial quality policy: “We will not sell what we do not relish ourselves.” Gits’ product line includes a wide variety of ready to cook items, ready to eat items, savory snacks and dairy products. It also exports to more than 40 countries. The company is now led by members of the 2nd and 3rd generation of the Tejani and Gilani families.

Aasiya Tejani

Aasiya is part of the 3rd Generation in her family business Gits Food Products Pvt. Ltd., a pioneer in convenience packaged food in India established in 1963. She serves in the role of Director (Finance) at the company. After finishing school in Pune, India, she went to the US for college to major in Business Economics, with Philosophy as a minor at the College of Wooster, Ohio. She interned at UBS Paine-Weber in Philadelphia and worked at Ibbotson Associates in Chicago before returning to India. These experiences provided her with valuable exposure to the corporate sector and important learnings on teamwork, discipline and a strong work ethic which aided in her role in the family business. She firmly believes it was vital to work outside the family business before joining it. In 2015, she completed an executive development program at the Kellogg School of Management in Evanston, Illinois. This program equipped her with advanced management strategies and leadership techniques, preparing her to take on more responsibilities within her family's business. Despite her global experiences, Aasiya's love for her hometown and a desire to contribute towards retainingits heritage, led her to invest in a for-profit social enterprise. This enterprise works with local artisans, particularly focusing on manufacturing copper handicrafts. By serving on the board of this company, Aasiya demonstrates her commitment to supporting local craftsmanship and promoting sustainable business practices.

Samana Tejani

Samana Tejani is the director operations of Gits Food Products Pvt. Ltd. Established in 1963 by members of the Tejani and Gilani family, Gits Food Products Pvt. Ltd is a pioneer in ready to cook and ready to eat Indian meals. With a catalog of over 100 products, they export to over 50 countries across the Globe. Samana is a 3rd generation family member who is actively involved in the company operations. Samana is credited with upgrading the production technology at Gits. She has led the construction of a new state of the art ready-to-eat food production plant. She is also instrumental in the facilities attaining various accreditations such as HACCP, Better process control school (conducted by the US- FDA) etc. She is a member of the International Food Technologist associations.

In addition to her work at Gits, Samana is an alumni of the Global Shapers Community, an initiative of the World economic forum and also served as curator from 2016-2017. She led an Education project in her home town of Pune which worked to uplift schools that served under privileged children.

Samana has completed her Masters in Business administration and her Bachelors of Science in Food science from Purdue University, USA
