Heritage in the Post-COVID-19 World

We have lived through a historic moment in the past two years, which has made us pause, protect, ponder, and plan forward for the future. This applies to all walks of life, knowledge and practices. Heritage sector has much to reflect - both in terms of how heritage could or could not offer to be a source of resilience in these difficult times, as well as in terms of how we should think of, and act on the idea of heritage in the coming years and decades. We are consciously saying ‘decades’ and not ‘centuries’ because it seems we have a cycle of such pandemic moments almost every century. After taking a 'pause' for two years on our international annual conference series on heritage management education and practice due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided to return to this theme to allow us for a set of timely reflections on various pertinent themes, and to ask some of the fundamental questions on rethinking the notions of heritage, the relevance of heritage, preparedness for other forms of panic (not just on micro-biological pandemic but also information pandemic, climate change induced pandemic, and sustainability issues among others).

We invite proposals for paper or poster presentations by individuals, groups or organisations who may consider relevant themes to reflect on the idea and practice of heritage as learned specifically during the pandemic. All submissions will go through a double blind review process.

We invite you to ponder upon any of the following themes or experiences during the pandemics in the past two years or so, in the upcoming conference. 

Possible Themes for Submission:

• Heritage as a source of resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic
• Heritage of Pandemic (recent as well as historical ones with sub-themes like Mapping the memories of pandemic experience, Innovations in response to the pandemic, etc.)
• Digital heritage (with emphasis on the positive impact of COVID-19)
• Digital and virtual perspectives and processes on heritage
• Health, Hygiene and Heritage Management
• Heritage education during the pandemic: lessons learned
• Preparedness for sustaining heritage during distress (both pandemic, economic crisis and wars, among others)
• Socio-ecological systems and Pandemics

Abstract Submission

Timeline:
June 15, 2022: Last date for the submission of abstracts
July 15, 2022:  Registrations Open
December 2-4, 2022: Conference 

Registration Rates:
The following rates include a conference kit, access to all sessions, welcome reception, cultural programme, tea/coffee and farewell high tea. For international participants, airport pick up and drop off is also included.
