Chiasma 2026

Chiasma is a student-led science fest organised by School of Arts and Sciences, Ahmedabad University. It brings together the curious minds of students from across the country to experience the University’s rich academic ecosystem through hands-on workshops, insightful talks, and interactive sessions that go beyond textbooks and classroom lectures. In our tenth edition, Chiasma continues to bridge the gap between scientific questions and the tools to answer them, making science engaging, accessible and relevant.

Who is Chiasma for?

Chiasma is for students driven by inquisitiveness. Undergraduates, post-graduates, and aspiring researchers are all welcome to explore life sciences and its interdisciplinary intersections. It is for those who believe science is best understood by doing. It is for those who refuse to be confined by a single discipline, who are open to exploration, and who are not afraid to engage with the unknowns that lie at the heart of scientific inquiry.

If you're looking to gain hands-on experience with modern biological techniques, interact with researchers and peers, and be a part of a community that values curiosity over credentials, Chiasma is for you.

Join us to experience life sciences through immersive workshops, meaningful conversations, and a community that celebrates learning, experimentation, and collaboration.

Culturals

Chiasma isn’t just about science—it’s about the people, conversations, and connections that make the experience memorable. Our cultural events are designed to bring participants together through mixers, interactive games, fun quizzes, and informal bonding sessions that go beyond academic spaces.

As the sun sets, the energy picks up—with live performances, a DJ night, and friendly matches of volleyball to keep things moving. Add to that a guest speaker (to be revealed soon!), and you’ve got evenings packed with laughter, music, movement, and memorable moments.

Whether you’re dancing, competing, chatting, or just soaking in the vibe, Chiasma culturals are all about unwinding, connecting, and having a really good time—together

Workshops

CSI Chronicles

Who said science can't be thrilling? CSI Chronicles, the forensics workshop at Chiasma, explores the world of crime fighting and connects it with the excitement of practical science.

In our workshop, where science meets suspense, students will be exposed to realistic crime scenarios and will engage in solving the mystery by themselves. They experience hands-on training in essential intriguing practical tests performed by forensic investigators.

Join us to fulfil those detective desires and experience nothing less than being in a CID episode at the Forensic Science Workshop at Chiasma 2026!

Workshop Itinerary

  • Dactylography - Scientific Study of Fingerprints
  • Blood Splatter
  • DNA Extraction
  • Food Adulterations
  • Investigating a Crime Scene

Deciphering Life

Proteins, the building blocks of life, are present in our body in various forms. From enzymes that catalyse metabolic reactions to antibodies that defend against foreign antigens, the list goes on. This makes studying proteins crucial for understanding fundamental biological processes, drug discovery, and other innovations in the field of biology.

This workshop gives students hands-on experience with foundational techniques and instruments for molecular biology experiments. Students gain skills that are not only transferable but also perennially relevant across biological fields.

Workshop itinerary

  • Protein isolation
  • Bradford's Assay
  • SDS PAGE
  • Western blot

Life in Bytes

Biological research generates a vast amount of data like genome and protein sequences and information on biological molecules and organisms. Bioinformatics brings together people across the field of biology, physics, chemistry, AI and computer science to devise computational methods to manage, analyse and derive useful interpretations out of this data. These in-silico tools are increasingly being used in fields of drug discovery, phylogenetics, and structural biology.

The aim of the workshop is to give a basic introduction to bioinformatics tools through problem-solving.

Workshop Itinerary

  • Handling databases
  • Pairwise and multiple sequence alignments (MEGA)
  • BLAST
  • Homology modelling
  • Visualising proteins using Chimera
  • Molecular Docking via AutodockVina

Microscopic Mysteries

Light is a powerful tool harnessed not only in biology but in all disciplines of science like physics and chemistry. In biology, it illuminates life at a molecular level: from the vibrant glow of fluorescence to subtle absorbance changes in growing bacterial cultures.

In microscopic mysteries, participants are introduced to the principles and application of fluorescent and confocal microscopy, revealing how scientists visualize cellular structures, track dynamic processes, and extract meaning from what is otherwise invisible.

Through guided demonstrations and hands-on interactions, participants will learn to obtain publication worthy images.

Workshop Itinerary

  • Modeling Bacterial Growth Kinetics
  • Fluorescent Microscopy
  • Confocal Microscopy
