Pushtimarga Vaishnava bhakti sampradaya incorporates a large repertoire of music in its everyday devotional service to Lord Krishna. Its rich literary content, elaborate raga and tala systems, and the liturgical significance of ragas and compositions make for a complex musical tradition. Professors Lakshmi Sreeram and Aditya Chatuvedi have engaged with two compositions by Acharya Goswami Shri Ranchhodlal-ji of the Goswami Haveli in Kalupur, Ahmedabad, in the book Ragangarnavaratna.
The event offers a glimpse into this tradition of music. With Arpit Mandavia and Hiren Soni accompanying him on the sarangi and pakhawaj, the Goswami will demonstrate a few compositions, including the ones analysed in the book. Professors Sreeram and Chaturvedi will offer comments on various facets of the compositions.
