Learning History at Ahmedabad University

The School of Arts and Sciences at Ahmedabad University invites high school students from grades 11 and 12 to participate in an essay competition. The competition is organised by the history faculty of the Humanities and Languages division at the School of Arts and Sciences. The competition aims to encourage students’ awareness about the exciting field of study in history as an academic discipline at Ahmedabad University. Essay
Students should write a short story reflecting on how the life and deeds of a historical figure have shaped their own thinking. Some suggested examples are of historical figures such as the Mauryan emperor Ashoka, the Mughal emperor Akbar, Mohandas Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Savitri Bai Phule, Bhim Rao Ambedkar, or Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain. It is likely that a student may have been influenced by other historical figures from India or abroad. They can base their life story on tracing how a historical personality has influenced their own thinking and attitude towards the world. The length of the essay should be around 500 words. 

Rewards of the Competition 

  • The top five students will receive prizes in the form of gift vouchers, worth up to Rs. 20,000 in total. Other successful students will be given a certificate from the School of Arts and Sciences and their profiles will be displayed on our website. 
  • Winners of the prizes and certificates will have an opportunity to meet and interact with the history faculty in May 2022. 
  • Successful students are encouraged to apply for the Bachelor of Arts degree with History as a Major.

Scholarships and Financial Aid
Ahmedabad University has a generous policy to offer Merit Scholarships and Need-Based Aid. Every year the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Financial Aid gives Merit Scholarships to the students having outstanding academic achievements. The Office also provides Need-Based Aid to the exceptionally motivated students. Such Aid aims to bridge the gap between the educational cost and the family’s financial circumstances.
