Ahmedabad Professor Contributes to UNEP’s The Emissions Gap Report 2023
Minal Pathak, Associate Professor, Global Centre for Environment and Energy, Ahmedabad University, is one of the lead authors of the United Nations Environment Programme’s The Emissions Gap Report 2023.
The Emissions Gap Report 2023: Broken Record – Temperatures hit new highs, yet the world fails to cut emissions (again), pointing to the urgent need for increased climate action, was published on November 20, ahead of the COP28 to be held in Dubai.
The report finds that current national pledges under the Paris Agreement are not enough and will put the world on track for 2.5-2.9°C warming this century. The report calls for all nations to accelerate economy-wide, low-carbon development transformations. Countries with greater capacity and responsibility for emissions – particularly high-income and high-emitting countries among the G20 – will need to take more ambitious and rapid action and provide financial and technical support to developing nations.
