Chop Chat Eat Heal Initiative
Food and drink arise from the depth of everyday cultures, composing our social relations as well as our common connections to lives and livelihoods within different environments. Fungible foods and fluid edibles are philosophies and cosmic world views embedded in daily lived life, in interactions among peoples, lands and seas, multiple species living and co-existing in manifold ecosystems. Chinese and Sinitic cultures have long held and practised food-based medicinal body care regimes, as seen in peoples’ practices using seasonal organic foodstuff to heal illness as well as maintain wellbeing.
Chinese and Sinitic medicinal precepts of Yin Yang and the Five Elements (Metal, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth) are a philosophy of the mutuality in restriction, growth and balance of mindbody health in ecospheres. Āyurveda in India and South Asia likewise instantiate a mode of living wherein bodies are not a system apart in medicine, but indivisible with living natural environments.
For this Lunar New Year’s Lantern Festivities, Chefs from India’s Edible Archives and Taiwan’s Vixens’ Venue, through cooking, tasting, togethering, and talking, we inaugurate our “chop chat eat heal” initiative.
