Integrated Development of Four Railway Stations of Gujarat with Heritage Perspective

The project is commissioned by Railway Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) in July 2018. The four stations named as Sarkhej, Dholka, Lothal Burkhi and Dhandhuka are going through a massive change with the conversion of the gauge also resulting in an impact on the localities around these stations. Moreover, after the gauge conversion, the stations will require larger buildings which can house the increased demand. The challenge is to integrate the heritage of these ‘Historic landscapes’ into new development as well as safeguarding the existing architectural heritage of old station buildings at their respective campuses. The centre has focused on the solution to these challenges and also using this opportunity to document the context.
