Ahmedabad University and Madras Diabetes Research Foundation Collaborate for Health Improvement Initiatives
In order to foster improvements in health nationally and globally through research and training, Ahmedabad University and the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF) at Chennai have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This partnership is specifically geared towards facilitating doctoral research endeavours. It will offer the participating PhD candidates exposure to cutting-edge research methodologies and diverse perspectives, broadening their understanding of ways to deal with the complex challenges surrounding non-communicable diseases. Students of the upcoming PhD programme in Epidemiology will also have the opportunity to collaborate with MDRF scientists.
This synergistic collaboration is aimed at promoting a problem-solving approach through faculty and student exchanges, joint participation in thesis committees, multidisciplinary research and training initiatives, and the sharing of educational materials and resources between the two institutions. Their common interests in epidemiology, nutrition, and prevention of diabetes and other cardiometabolic diseases will foster novel health promotion initiatives and policies to help reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases nationally and globally.
The eminent diabetologist and Padma Shri recipient, Dr V. Mohan, who established MDRF in 1996, and Dr R. Guha Pradeepa, Executive Scientific Officer and Head, Research Operations and Diabetes Complications, MDRF, will serve as faculty at the University’s School of Public Health.
