Research Interests: Evolutionary Psychology, Philosophy of Psychology, Experimental Folk-psychology
Professor Nagireddy Neelakanteswar Reddy has an interdisciplinary interest in both philosophy and psychology. His academic journey reflects this passion, beginning with a BA in Psychology and Philosophy, followed by a MA in Philosophy from the University of Hyderabad (and a 3/4th-finished MA in Psychology from Andhra University). He furthered his studies with an MPhil in Cognitive Science from the University of Hyderabad and completed his PhD in Cognitive Science at IIT Gandhinagar.
Professor Reddy explores theoretical and philosophical questions in psychology through the systematic review and synthesis of empirical findings in the field. His research focuses on the implications of an evolutionary, naturalistic framework for understanding the human mind and existence, with particular emphasis on psychological processes like free will, rationality, and the purpose of life. In addition to theoretical exploration, he conducts experimental research, particularly investigating folk-psychological views on processes such as free will, rationality, and the purpose of life.
Professor Nagireddy Neelakanteswar Reddy's MPhil work developed an analogy between biological evolutionary processes and epistemic processes. His PhD research addressed theoretical, philosophical, and metascientific issues related to the construct of the 'sense of agency.' Subsequently, his post-PhD work explored topics in sensory-perceptual processes, such as cognitive penetration and multisensory integration. Currently, he is focusing on the implications of evolutionary perspectives for philosophical issues in psychology.
