Zebrafish as a Model System: From Husbandry to Biomedical Research

Zebrafish as a Model System

Zebrafish (Danio rerio) is a powerful vertebrate model widely used in biomedical research for studying development, disease mechanisms, neurotoxicity, and drug responses. This capacity-building workshop is open to undergraduate and graduate students, research scholars, academic professionals, and industry participants and aims to provide hands-on training in zebrafish-based experimental techniques. The programme is designed to build practical skills, strengthen research capabilities, and inspire participants to integrate zebrafish models into their own scientific investigations.

Programme Highlights

  • Handling and maintenance of Zebrafish
  • Study of the Developmental Stages of Embryos
  • Phenotypic and behavioural analysis
  • Acute and developmental toxicity assays
  • Microinjection
  • Fluorescent imaging
  • Data interpretation and experimental design

Who Should Attend?

  • Undergraduate and Graduate students
  • PhD Scholars
  • Early-Career Researchers (Life Sciences | Biotechnology | Pharmacy | Nanoscience)

Outcomes

  • Participants will independently design and execute zebrafish-based experiments
  • Participants will quantitatively acquire, analyse, and interpret zebrafish imaging and phenotyping
  • Participants will develop a complete zebrafish experimental workflow
