Zero-sum problems are essentially combinatorial in nature, dealing with conditions ensuring that a given sequence over a finite group possesses a zero-sum subsequence with prescribed properties. Several invariants are associated with zero-sum problems, such as the Davenport constant, the Erdős-Ginzburg-Ziv constant, and the Harborth constant. The original motivation for introducing such group invariants was to explore the problem of non-unique factorisation domains over number field. The precise values of these group invariants, even for finite abelian groups, remain unknown. In this presentation, I will discuss zero-sum problems within a specific class of sequences. Additionally, we will explore the behaviour of zero-sum invariants for random sequences.

Professor Eshita Mazumdar currently holds the position of Assistant Professor at Ahmedabad University. She earned her PhD from the Homi Bhabha National Institute (Harish-Chandra Research Institute, Allahabad) and completed her Bachelor's and Master's degrees at the University of Calcutta and IIT Kharagpur, respectively. Before joining Ahmedabad University, Professor Mazumdar served as a National Board for Higher Mathematics Postdoctoral Fellow at the Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore. She was also a visiting faculty member at IIT Jammu, and previously held postdoctoral positions at IIT Bombay and Nankai University, China. Her primary research focus is on Combinatorial Number Theory, and she also explores topics in Additive and Extremal Combinatorics, Graph Theory, and Diophantine Equations. Professor Mazumdar has received several accolades, including the Chairman’s Award for Research Excellence from Ahmedabad University in 2024, the SERB-CRG in 2023, and a National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Grant for her postdoctoral work at Nankai University. Additionally, she was granted the Erasmus+ International Program (K 107) award for collaboration and travel.
