A Visit to Ahmedabad University by Nobel Laureate Dr. Venki Ramakrishnan
Dr Venkatraman Ramakrishnan is an inspirational example of interdisciplinary academic scholarship and public science communication. A structural biologist, he is a winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Venki (as he likes to be known) spent his childhood years here in Gujarat, and took his first degree — a Bachelor of Science in Physics — at the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, before moving to the United States for his initial breakthrough academic research and then to Cambridge’s MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology.
The Nobel Prize was awarded in 2009 jointly to Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, Thomas A. Steitz and Ada E. Yonath “for studies of the structure and function of the ribosome.” From 2015-2020, he was a ground-breaking President of the Royal Society, the UK’s independent scientific academy dedicated to promoting excellence in science for the benefit of humanity.
Dr Ramakrishnan has kindly agreed to join us at Ahmedabad University on Monday 11 January 2021 at 5 pm for a virtual conversation. He will be in conversation with Professor Patrick French and will make time to answer questions and interact with students and faculty.
There are two means of joining the interaction with Dr Venki Ramakrishnan.
The first is via the YouTube live link https://youtu.be/iwfLkjtNPmQ. This will enable you to see and hear everything. It can also be shared with your colleagues, friends and family who may wish to hear the conversation.
The second way of joining is to take part in the Zoom call itself. If you would like to do this, you will need to preregister on the form. A joining link will be sent in January.
