Climate Change and Industry: Towards a low Carbon Transformation
Climate Change and Industry: Towards a low Carbon Transformation
Host: Global Centre for Environment and Energy and Carbon Disclosure Project
‘Climate change and industry: Towards a low carbon transformation’ co-hosted by Global Centre for Environment and Energy, Ahmedabad University and CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project).
The aim of this 'invite only' workshop is to foster better understanding and capacity building of companies on the issues of climate change mitigation, energy efficiency and clean energy technologies to accelerate business actions on these vital issues.
Green House Gases (GHG) emission reduction activities by proactive companies can contribute significantly to achieve India’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC’s). Companies that measure their environmental risk are better able to manage it strategically. Today the corporate sector is witnessing climate mitigation related opportunities grow, rather than sink through. This is an important shift for companies, from doing what they think they can easily manage, to stepping up to do what’s needed.
The forthcoming report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) includes a chapter on industry that will assess mitigation opportunities such as maximizing resource and energy efficiency, adopting low carbon technologies and exploring ways to reduce process emissions, waste and carbon capture and utilization. Evidence shows many companies are already playing their part through setting emissions reduction targets in line with climate science, committing to using 100% renewable electricity or working to remove commodity-driven deforestation from supply chains.
Environmental disclosures by leading companies via CDP’s reporting platform shows how corporates are driving business and sustainability improvements.
The workshop will also include sessions on Commit to Action programs showing how industries can demonstrate environmental leadership today, covering science-based targets, renewable energy and internal carbon pricing. The event is an excellent capacity building and networking opportunity with the participation of a diverse group of stakeholders committed to sustainability.
