The PhD Programme in Physics is designed to prepare students for a career as a researcher, either in academia or in industry. Careers in industry will depend on the area of doctoral research and the extent of industrial research in that field. Through coursework and research projects that will expose students to research in different branches of Physics, students will be prepared for the expected level of research in the PhD programme.

Who can apply for the doctoral programme in Physics

Candidates with - Masters degree in Physics with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade.

Masters degree in Mathematics / Engineering / Technology with a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade - may be considered if their Bachelors and Masters programmes include sufficient number of courses in Physics and Mathematics (to be decided on a case by case basis).

(The decision of the concerned authorities of the School of Arts and Sciences regarding the eligibility of any candidate shall be final)

Selection process

Shortlisted candidates will be called for a written test administered by Ahmedabad University. The requirement of a written test may be relaxed for candidates who have qualified any one of the following standardised tests - JEST, GATE, CSIR-UGC NET (JRF/LS), GRE Physics, or any other well recognised test.

Candidates qualifying the written test or shortlisted based on any of the above mentioned standardised tests will be called for an interview. Final selection will be based on the performance in the written test / standardised test and interview.
