The Research Seminar Series at School of Engineering and Applied Science has been initiated to teach the students about the current trends and news in the world of research. The inaugural talk was given by Professor R. K. Shevgaonkar on the ‘Invisible Universe’ at the SEAS Auditorium. Professor R. K. Shevgaonkar is an eminent scholar and researcher known for his outstanding contribution to Optical Communication. He is currently Professor at IIT Bombay and was the former Director of IIT Delhi. Professor Shevgaonkar shared fascinating details about how the universe is being studied, the relating phenomena and the variety of instrumentation developed to capture the entire spectrum of radiation including state-of-art technologies in antennas, radio communication and image processing. He also highlighted the techniques and engineering challenges of developing high quality telescopes and the science that can come out of them. The students’ inquisitiveness in the form of few questions made an interesting interactive session for the audience.
