Professor Neel Kamal Chapagain was invited as an external resource person at the inception meeting of the two thematic groups ‘Cultural Heritage’ and ‘Mountain’ tourism, under the Himalayan University Consortium, supported by ICIMOD (International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development), at its headquarters in Kathmandu, Nepal. The meeting took place on 3 and 4 October 2019, and took stock of the status of higher education among HUC members in the fields of cultural heritage and mountain tourism. During the inaugural session of the meeting, Professor Chapagain shared his observations on the current status of World Heritage Nominations in Nepal, and offered perspectives on revisiting the current strategies keeping in mind the prospects of cultural landscape and cultural tourism in the mountain region.
