Professor Bibek Banerjee is currently the Senior Dean of Strategic Initiatives and Planning at the Ahmedabad University and Professor at the Amrut Mody School of Management. He is an honorary Director of the Academy of Indian Marketing Professionals (AIM), an academic and industry think-tank, which includes leading scholars and leaders of business and marketing management. He regularly volunteers as a Faculty Fellow in the American Marketing Association-AIM-Sheth Foundation Doctoral Consortiums to contribute to the promotion of scholarship and research. His research publications have appeared in several international academic journals including Marketing Science, International Journal of Management, Journal of International Consumer Marketing, and Advances in Applied Microeconomics. Professor Banerjee is also the founding co-editor of the Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Emerging Economies, published by Sage Publications.
Professor Banerjee began his career at Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA), where he spent nearly 18 years as a Professor of Marketing and Economics, contributing to a wide range of academic arenas. At IIMA, he introduced and popularised the simulation methodology in his curriculum and was recognised for his significant contributions to learning; chaired and led the Marketing Area; co-founded the Centre for Research in Retailing; and provided leadership to create and operationalise IIMA’s successful collaboration with Duke University’s Corporate Education Centre for customised Executive Education. He has also been a visiting Professor at Appalachian State University (USA), Copenhagen Business School (Denmark) and Mediterranean School of Business (Tunisia).
Professor Banerjee was the Director and Academic Mentor of the Institute of Management Technology (IMT) Group, with campuses in Ghaziabad, Dubai, Nagpur and Hyderabad. Under his leadership, IMT Ghaziabad became the 4th B-school in India to be awarded the prestigious AACSB business accreditation in a record cycle-time of less than four years. IMT-G was also consistently ranked among India’s top-15 B-schools overall and among top-4 Private Business Schools by credible ranking agencies. His leadership on academic excellence and processes, prompted AACSB to induct him into their Asia-Pacific Advisory Council, where he served from 2014 to 2015. He was also the first recipient of AIMS International Award for Outstanding Leadership as a Business School Director.
Professor Bibek Banerjee has significant experience in designing and delivering Executive Education programmes in leadership development. Some of his large clients include organisations such as Ericsson, Coca-Cola, Aditya Birla Group, Microsoft, Genpact, Jubilant FoodWorks, Citibank, INFOSYS, TATA group, Unilever India, HDFC Bank, TVS Group, Phillips, IOC, OIL India, HT Media, et al. He has taught senior executives all around the world and his current teaching interests span sustainable and integrated business orientation as well as strategic marketing and leadership across hierarchies. He has also successfully incubated companies in education and technology.
Professor Banerjee holds PhD and MS degrees from Purdue University’s Krannert Graduate School of Management and BSc (Economics Honours) from Calcutta University (St. Xavier’s College). An avid world traveller, high altitude trekker and a nature photographer, Professor Banerjee has led expeditions in the Himalayas and to the base camps of Mount Everest, Annapurna and Machhapuchhare.Back
